colorful package TIL
(Today I learn) - colorful package, and empty space
today I open up a breakfast bar, why not, let me eat one,
this is the second one, I ate one
it occurs to me that there is not much left,
so I examine the box to see how many breakfast bar is left,
and then I look at the box to see how many breakfast bar
is supposed to be in the box,
Then subliminally I thought to my self, Jesus Louis,
that is a big box for only five breakfast bars,
if they really want to save space, they could make the box
a lot smaller, then I thought to my self,
it is package marketing, to make you feel subconsciously,
like you are getting more, because the box is bigger,
when, in fact, you are, in a sense, getting what you paid for,
or not getting what you paid for, like
then I look at the wrapper that the breakfast bar is in,
and I notice the same pattern, as the box,
The wrapper, just as colorful, vibrant, and clear in the
printing technology, in the color reproduction, [in the image,]
in the visual presentation of the package, in the design,
they went all out, the lining inside the wrapper, just like
the potatoes chips bag, is covered in a plastic thin film
of aluminum[-plastic], or, some thing very much like aluminum,
air tight, water proof, designed to preserve the quality
of the breakfast bar, when I open it, and
when I open the wrapper, I can smell the "freshness" of
the breakfast bar, or the sugar content;
okay, back to my point, what is it, the wrapper could be
one third smaller and would still cover actual breakfast bar
with no problem, so first, the box is bigger than
it needs to be, and second, the wrapper is larger than
it needs to be; what is my beef (vegetable)
you might be asking about now, not only is the maker of
this breakfast bar is engaging in perception management,
they are literally and figuratively wasting space.
([ of course, from the perspective of the packaging
people, this is not wasted space. The empty space
is there for a purpose. The empty space in the box
and, the empty space in the wrapper. ])
